The ChanTape extension collects nothing. It has no account, no analytics and no server of its own. Everything it remembers stays in your browser.

The only personal data we hold is the email address you give us if you join the Premium waitlist on this website.

The browser extension

What it stores in your browser

All of this lives in your browser’s extension storage. It is never sent to us, and you can delete it at any time from the extension’s settings, its History page, or by removing the extension.

Data	What’s in it
Settings	Your choices on the settings page and in the player menu, such as volume, autoplay and download folder name.
History	Videos you watched for a few seconds or saved: file address and name, thumbnail address, size, file hash, site, board, post link and time. 50 entries in the free version. You can pause or clear it.
Favorites	The same details for videos you starred, plus collection names you add.
Sites you enabled	The addresses of imageboards you turned ChanTape on for, and the last board you visited on each.
Watched threads	Thread address and title, and the addresses of videos already in the thread, used to count new ones.
Your place in a thread	The video and second you stopped at, kept only until you close the tab.

Nothing is recorded in incognito or private windows.

Which servers it contacts

Server	When	What is sent
The imageboard you’re on	While you watch a thread	Normal requests for the thread’s data and video files, the same as your browser makes when you view the page.
4chan’s public API (a.4cdn.org)	Every 30–60 seconds while a thread is open; once an hour at most for the popular boards list in the extension’s popup; every 5 minutes for watched threads	Requests for public thread and catalog data. No information about you is added.
chantape.com	Only when you click a Premium link in the extension	The page address includes where you clicked (for example “popup”) and the extension’s version number. Nothing else.

Optional video detection

If you turn on “Detect videos on other sites”, your browser asks you to allow access to all sites. ChanTape then counts video links on the pages you open, to show a number on its icon. The count is made on your device and never leaves it. You can turn it off in settings at any time.

Permissions

Storage keeps the data above. Downloads saves a video when you click Save. Scripting and access to specific sites let the player run on the imageboards you choose. Alarms check watched threads. A network rule allows the volume-leveling feature to read audio from 4chan’s video server (i.4cdn.org).

The Premium waitlist

If you join the waitlist on chantape.com/premium, we store:

your email address,
which answer you picked about the price, and the price shown to you,
where you came from (for example “extension, popup”) and the extension version, if you came from the extension,
when you signed up and confirmed.

We use it only to send you one email when Premium launches, and to see how many people would pay which price. We don’t share it, sell it, or add you to any other list.

How long we keep it

If you don’t click the confirmation link, your sign-up is deleted automatically after 7 days.
After confirmation, we keep it until we send the launch email, then delete it within 30 days. Every email has a link that deletes your address immediately.
To stop abuse, we keep a scrambled (hashed) form of your IP address for one hour to limit how many sign-ups come from one connection.

Services we use

Service	Why
Cloudflare (hosting, storage, Turnstile)	Runs this website and stores waitlist entries. Turnstile checks that a sign-up comes from a person, without cookies for advertising. Cloudflare processes your IP address to deliver the site and protect it from attacks.
Resend	Sends the confirmation email and the launch email.

This website has no analytics scripts, no advertising and no tracking cookies. Its font is hosted here, not loaded from a third party.

Legal basis and your rights

We process waitlist data with your consent, which you give by confirming your email. You can withdraw it at any time with the link in our emails or by writing to us. You can ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it or to delete it. If you are in the EU or UK, you can also complain to your local data protection authority.

If we change this policy, the date at the top changes too. If a change affects the waitlist, we’ll email you before it takes effect.
