ChanTape

Changelog

What changed in the extension, and how to turn an imageboard on.

1.1.1 3 November 2026

When you allow ChanTape on an imageboard, the button now appears on tabs that are already open. You don’t reload the page.

That’s this version. Update it from the Chrome Web Store. The steps below are the case it fixes: vichan, LynxChan and jschan, where the site starts off.

Turn ChanTape on for vichan, LynxChan or jschan

Some imageboards work the moment you install ChanTape. Open a thread and click the button on the page. Sites running vichan, LynxChan or jschan need one permission for that site. You do this once.

  1. Open a thread on that imageboard. A board index with no files yet is a poor first page: the popup can only count videos it can see.
  2. Click the ChanTape icon in the toolbar. The popup names the site.
  3. If it found videos, it says the site is off and offers a Play button with the count, plus “Just enable”. Play asks permission and then opens the feed. “Just enable” turns the site on and leaves the page as it is.
  4. Allow the site when the browser asks. The permission is only for that site. You can turn it off later from the same popup: “Disable on this site”.
  5. The ChanTape button appears on the open tab, without a reload, on version 1.1.1. Click it. Videos fill the window.
  6. If this page has no videos, the popup says so. “Enable on this site anyway” still grants that site, so the button is there the next time the page has files.

ChanTape then reads the thread and plays its videos one after another. Save still keeps a single file, under its original name. It does not download the rest of the board.

Next visit to that site, skip this. The button should already be on the thread. If a page hides its files behind an unusual layout, open the thread where the videos are actually linked, then click the icon again.

First install, on a site that already works? Use Get started instead. Other questions are in the FAQ.
