Get started
Open a thread, press play, scroll with the wheel. The first time takes a minute.
- Install it. Add ChanTape to Chrome. The same listing works in Edge and Brave. Firefox is coming soon.
- Open a thread that has videos. ChanTape plays what is in that thread, not a whole board.
- Click the ChanTape button on the page. It shows the name and how many videos it found, for example ChanTape (4). Videos fill the window and play one after another.
- No button? That imageboard isn’t on yet. Open the ChanTape icon and turn the site on. On vichan, LynxChan and jschan this is one permission for that site. From version 1.1.1 the button shows up on the open tab, without a reload.
- Move through the feed with the wheel, the arrow keys or a swipe. Press S to star a video. Save puts one file in your Downloads folder, under its original name.
If you come back
Close the player and open it again. You’re on the same video, at the same second. That place lasts until you close the tab. New posts land at the end of the list while you watch.
Keys worth knowing
The full list is in the extension’s settings. These cover a normal thread:
| Key | What it does |
|---|---|
| Wheel, ←, → | Previous and next video |
| ↑, ↓ | Volume |
| Space | Pause |
| M | Mute |
| S | Favorite |
| D | Save the file |
| A | Autoplay the next video |
| L | Loop the current video |
| F | Fullscreen |
| I | Show or hide images in this tab |
| Esc | Close the player |
| Click, or Alt-click | Open that video or image in the player. A plain click does this while “Open videos in the player” is on, which it is at first. Ctrl-click still opens a new tab. |
A few more keys belong to ChanTape Chad, which isn’t on sale yet. They’re marked in settings.
