What is ChanTape?

ChanTape is a free browser extension. It plays the videos in an imageboard thread as a fullscreen feed. Open a thread, press play, and move with the mouse wheel, the arrow keys or a swipe. New posts join the list while you watch. There is no account. Get started if you want the clicks.

Is ChanTape free?

Yes. The extension costs nothing. A paid version, ChanTape Chad, is planned and is not on sale. Everything that is free today stays free. On the waitlist you can say what price would work for you. You can’t pay on this site yet.

Which browsers does it run in?

Install it from the Chrome Web Store. The same extension works in Edge and Brave. Firefox is coming soon.

Which imageboards does it support?

Most of them. Some work as soon as you install ChanTape: open a thread and click the button on the page. Sites running vichan, LynxChan or jschan need one click to turn on. The browser then asks permission for that site only. The steps are under Turn a site on.

Does it download a whole thread or board?

No. ChanTape plays the videos in the thread you’re watching. Save keeps one file, in your Downloads folder, under its original name. There is no download of a whole thread or a whole board.

Can I pick up where I stopped?

Yes. Close the player and open it again, and you’re on the same video at the same second. ChanTape keeps that place until you close the tab. After that, open the thread and press play again.

What do favorites and history keep?

Press S to star a video and find it later from the extension icon. A star stays in your browser. It is not uploaded. Save is separate: one click downloads that file. History keeps videos you watched for a few seconds, or saved — up to 50 in the free version. You can pause or clear it in settings. The privacy policy lists the fields.

Does ChanTape track me?

No. There is no account, no analytics and no tracking in the extension. Settings, history and favorites stay in your browser, and nothing is recorded in incognito or private windows. The privacy policy lists every request the extension makes.

What does it send to chantape.com?

When the browser starts, and every few hours after that, it requests a small settings file so it can tell whether this version is still supported. The address includes the version number. No cookies, no identifier and no browsing data are sent. A ChanTape Chad link can add where you clicked, and the version, in the page address. That’s all.

What is “Detect videos on other sites”?

An optional switch in settings, off unless you turn it on. The browser asks for access to the sites you visit. ChanTape then counts video links on those pages and shows a number on its icon. The count stays on your device. This is separate from allowing one imageboard. Turn it off in settings any time.

Will the free version lose features when Chad launches?

No. The free version stays free. Chad is a set of extras on top. It does not take away the player, the resume, the single-file save, or the history you have today.

What is ChanTape Chad?

The planned paid version. It isn’t on sale. Planned extras: a feed of videos from a whole board, skipping videos you’ve already seen, filters, watched threads, a mini player, an A–B loop and frame stepping, loudness leveling, and a longer history with collections — up to 5,000 videos, with search and export. How does the waitlist work, and what are the prices?

You can’t pay yet. The form asks which you’d pay: $3 a month, $25 once, or neither at those prices. That answer helps decide a price later. It is not a checkout. We send a confirmation link first, then one email when Chad launches. If you don’t confirm, the sign-up is deleted after 7 days. After you confirm, we keep the address until that launch email, then delete it within 30 days. Every email can delete it immediately. We don’t sell it or add you to another list. Is ChanTape affiliated with any imageboard?

No. ChanTape is an independent project and is not affiliated with any imageboard.
